Planning a Study with Power and Sample Size Considerations in Mind
The primary aim of this two-hour workshop is to prepare research investigators with a synopsis of the components used by research investigators and biostatisticians to plan a research study. We will consider the concepts of study design, statistical power, sample information (sample size), and the magnitude of a study's primary scientific quantity to be evaluated, known as the effect size. At the conclusion of the workshop, attendees should have a clearer understanding of how to more rigorously prepare their scientific investigations (e.g., grant applications) and have more productive interactions with their statistical colleagues. This seminar builds on concepts from Power and Sample Size 101
