Frequently Asked Questions
What is DIAMOND?
DIAMOND is a collaborative discovery learning space for clinical research professionals (CRPs) and other members of research study teams. Training items included in the DIAMOND collection are searchable by competency domain and provide information and links to offerings for study teams working in CTSA institutions and their partners.
What does ‘competency-based’ mean?
Competencies are defined as a specific set of knowledge and skills related to a topic, in this case clinical research. In 2014, the Joint Task Force for Clinical Trial Competency (JTF), harmonized clinical trial competencies and organized them into eight domains (Sonstein et al, 2014). In 2015 the NCATS-funded ECRPTQ project endorsed and modeled those sets of competencies for investigators and CRCs as integral to conducting clinical research with the highest level of scientific integrity. Learners who have completed competency-based training can show they have mastered the defined skills needed to complete specific skillsets. Sonstein, S.A., Seltzer, J., Li, R., Jones, C.T., Silva, H., Daemen, E. (2014, June). Moving from compliance to competency: A harmonized core competency framework for the clinical research professional. Clinical Researcher. 28(3); 17-23.
