Clinical Translational Research Seminar Series: Ari Pelcovits, MD + Patricia Zadnik Sullivan, MD
As part of the Advance RI-CTR Clinical and Translational Research Seminar Series, Drs. Ari Pelcovits and Patricia Zadnik Sullivan shared their early Advance RI-CTR Pilot Projects research. Ari Pelcovits, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Brown University: “Indolent Lymphoma and the Tumor Microenvironment: Novel Insights from Spatial Transcriptomic Analysis” The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a crucial role in supporting the growth and survival of indolent lymphomas. Non-malignant cells in the TME significantly impact tumor progression. Advances in transcriptional and proteomic profiling now allow researchers to retain tissue structure and architecture while exploring these influences. Early studies using these platforms in FL samples reveal distinct TME features associated with more aggressive phenotypes. Our investigation builds on the growing body of research on the spatial transcriptomic architecture of FL and represents the first spatial transcriptomic analysis of marginal zone lymphoma (MZL). Patricia Zadnik Sullivan, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Director, Center for Spine Tumor and Chordoma Research: “Exploring the heterogeneity of primary versus recurrent chordoma” Chordomas are slow-growing, rare primary bone malignancies that arise from notochordal progenitor cells along the spinal axis, characterized by high local recurrence after resection and distant metastasis. Due to the rarity of this tumor, previous research in the field has struggled to report the heterogeneity within primary versus recurrent chordoma. In my laboratory, we utilize RNAseq to reveal the differences in these tumor types. This talk was given on Thursday, January 9th, 2025
