Advance RI-CTR Clinical/Translational Research Seminar Series: Maria Steenland, PhD + Ben Brown, MD

Launch training

The Advance RI-CTR Clinical and Translational Research Seminar Series showcases clinical and translational research from across Rhode Island. This series features outstanding science from expert investigators alternating with Advance RI-CTR Pilot Projects awardees sharing their early research. Seminars are held virtually on the second Thursday of each month. "Access to long-acting reversible contraception removal services among Medicaid-covered postpartum women” Maria Steenland, PhD and Ben Brown, MD: This talk will present a first-look analysis of an ongoing study evaluating Medicaid-covered postpartum women’s experiences with removal of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC), such as IUDs and subdermal implants. Equitable access to LARC methods is a cornerstone of person-centered contraceptive care. However, because these methods can be difficult or impossible for patients to self-remove, it is equally important to ensure that patients do not experience barriers to removal, when desired. With this study, we seek to better-understand women’s experiences with LARC removal in the postpartum period. Lessons learned will help ensure high-quality contraceptive care, and serve as the basis for future work.
