Gaurav Chaudry, MD, Ruth and Paul Levinger Professor of Cardiology, The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University; Associate Chief of Staff (Research), VA Providence, speaks on: “Pulmonary Hypertension: Definition, Epidemiology and Novel Therapeutic Targets” In this talk, we will discuss clinical and epidemiological studies (many performed at the VA) that have contributed to understanding of the definition of pulmonary hypertension and its prevalence from general community to referral population. Right ventricular dysfunction determines outcomes in patients with pulmonary hypertension. Therefore, we will discuss translational research into mechanisms underlying RV dysfunction and present data on novel therapeutic targets in the RV that are expected to improve RV function, such as mitochondrial respiration, myocardial energetics and myocardial stiffness.
